Free butterfly event coming to Chandler

It's almost time for Chandler residents and visitors to enjoy the beauty of dragonflies and butterflies at an annual event.

The Dragonfly & Butterfly Bash is planned for Veterans Oasis Park, where attendees can learn about these insects as they go on nature walks guided by ecologists from Arizona State University.

Games and crafts will be available to help visitors learn about dragonflies and butterflies in all stages of their lives. There will also be information available on what kinds of plants and flowers attract these insects, so that people can create an oasis for these colorful insects in their own backyards.

There will be giveaways and demonstrations by special guests all morning, with participants coming from the University of Arizona Insect Discovery Lab, the Desert Botanical Garden, and the Butterfly Wonderland. According to Daniella Rodriguez, the Environmental Education Center's (EEC's) recreation coordinator, the Veterans Oasis Park's wetlands are the perfect place to observe butterflies damselflies, and dragonflies in late summer. The insects like to play above the wetlands, and Rodriguez urges people to come and see them, and enjoy the park.

The free Dragonfly & Butterfly Bash starts at 9:00 am and continues all morning on September 21, at Veteran's Oasis Park on Chandler Heights Road. The Environmental Education Center is located nearby. Banner printing can be used to create colorful decorations for events like this.
