The Chandler Center for the Arts is hosting the Moana Live-to-Film Concert this November.
The unique stage production features drumming and singing by Polynesian performers. In addition, the 2016 film will screen in its entirety as part of the concert, only with the musical ensemble taking the stage to perform the songs as it goes along.
Moana was a box office hit when it was released, garnering $700 million globally. Dwayne Johnson stars as Maui, a demigod in ancient Polynesia who is forced to team up with Auli’i Cravalho’s Moana, the ruler of an island under a curse, to restore the ocean’s resources.
With music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who was nominated for an Academy Award for the song “How Far I’ll Go,” Moana has proven to have staying power in pop culture as it boasts some impressive streaming records.
The over 80 billion minutes viewed of Moana since it hit Disney+ in 2019 is the equivalent of watching the movie 748 million times. That makes Moana not only the biggest title on Disney+, but one of the most-streamed movies on any platform.
