Former Mervyn's becomes furniture store

A former Mervyn's store will soon be back in business - as a Furniture & Mattress Discounters - and Chandler residents are delighted with the transaction. The location is at the corner of Elliot and Alma School roads, and the place is almost ready to open, according to an article in the East Valley Tribune. Ted Hass, the store's regional operations manager, plans a soft opening soon, and then a grand opening.

Hass said that he and his team are taking their time with the finishing touches, because they want everything to be first class when the store opens. The new store offers a showroom comprising 75,000 square feet, with an additional 25,000 square feet available for storage.

While Hass works on the interior, the exterior renovations are being handled by Michael A. Pollack, one of the project's investors. Pollack says the furniture store's outdoor renovations include landscaping, columns, decorative stone trim, paint, and monument signage.

Hass says he'll be hiring soon, and is looking for six drivers to make deliveries, as well as approximately seven salespeople. He'll also need a few customer service and administrative employees. Hass is hoping to schedule the soft opening by mid-June, with the grand opening a little later.

Projects like this can benefit if managers work with a flyer printing company to create a handout to distribute at the store during the opening. If they include a special offer, they may increase traffic to the new location.
