Chandler will soon be serenaded with the sounds of legendary 70s rock band Kansas when they perform at Wild Horse Pass this September.
The band’s chart-topping hits like Dust in the Wind and Carry on My Wayward Son still bring millions of plays on online music streaming platforms to this day, despite debuting in an era of cassette tapes and vinyl records.
Ronnie Platt, Kansas’ lead singer, opened up about his cancer fight in a recent interview. Being a vocalist known for hitting notes in the high register, Platt said he was worried when he first heard the news of his diagnosis, not knowing what it would mean for his career.
Platt’s existence up until then played out in the blink of an eye in his mind as he contemplated how long he would have left to live.
The frontman ultimately walked away triumphant. He defeated thyroid cancer just a month and a half after announcing it, thanks to treatment.
Platt received the help of Dr. Peter Angelos at the University of Chicago. Serendipitously, Dr. Angelos was the very same medical professional Platt was seeking for a second opinion at the time when his former bandmate, guitarist Frank Sinith, provided the connection via his girlfriend, who worked in the doctor’s office.
