A local gallery is offering residents of Chandler a chance to have some fun and be creative at the same time.
Vision Gallery now has an exhibit called “Take a Hike,” which is the inspiration for the upcoming class giving participants a chance to make a cactus out of clay. Attendees will be able to make a variety of different cacti depending on which shape they find most interesting (or funniest). In addition, the pieces will be air-dried rather than fired, so there is no need for anyone to worry about the difficulty of firing pottery. People of all ages are welcome, and all the necessary supplies will be provided. Flyer printing can be used to provide instruction sheets for classes like this.
The “Take a Hike” exhibit grew directly out of the pandemic. People in the Phoenix Valley were looking for ways to get some exercise and remain safe at the same time, and trail hiking became one of the most popular. Understanding what was happening, Chandler Galleries extended an invitation to artists to share their hiking experiences on the trails in Arizona and beyond.
The class is planned to be a drop-in event, but organizers would appreciate an RSVP so they can get supplies together.
The Make It: Clay Cactus event is scheduled for July 17, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. The Vision Gallery is on East Chicago Street, and encourages class members to visit the exhibit as well.
