Chandler could get valet parking service

With the increasing number of restaurants and boutiques opening in Chandler, now might be the time for the city to revisit its proposed valet parking measure. According to an August 10, 2015 news item, this is indeed happening.

Chandler is considering a plan that would create as many as 11 zones in the city's downtown where it would be possible for valet services to operate. The service would operate mostly on busy weekends.

There is already a 2011 ordinance extant allowing valet service in selected zones, but it has not yet taken root. However, with new developments planned and more on the way, Kim Moyers, Chandler's downtown redevelopment manager, said now was an appropriate time to take another look at the laws and update the city's parking zones.

Chandler's downtown is the area near Arizona Avenue, north of Frye Road and south of Chandler Boulevard. A mix of bars, restaurants, offices, shops, and residential properties is located there, as is the San Marcos Resort. The city has received plans for more restaurants that are slated to open within the next year. These and other new establishments indicate a need for convenient parking downtown.

A public hearing about valet parking took place last week in the City Council chambers. City officials could work with a postcard printing company to create a mailer for residents, advising them of the outcome.
