What's Happening in Chandler, AZ…

Chandler Center teams up with gallery for show

The Chandler Center for the Arts Gallery and Vision Gallery have teamed up to present an unusual joint exhibit, according to an article in the SanTan Sun News.

Entitled ‘Object Inspiration: A Collective Exhibition with the Chandler Museum’, the exhibit features approximately 30 artworks that have been inspired by items in the museum's collection. The historical objects will be exhibited near the prints, sculptures, photos, paintings, and other artworks they inspired.

Among the objects are an adding machine, hair curlers, and a theodolite, which is a tool surveyors use to measure angles. Using these and other objects, artists have created a “wide range” of art, according to Peter Bugg, who is Chandler's visual arts coordinator.

Bugg and Nate Meyers, who curates collections for the museum, worked together to select objects from the museum's collections, after which they were photographed and shown to the artists. Bugg said the exhibit will present the city's history in a new light, thanks to the objects that were used, and the art they inspired.

The exhibit opened late in May and will run through August 25, 2018, at both the Chandler Center for the Arts Gallery, and Vision Gallery. The Chandler Center is on North Arizona Avenue, and the Vision Gallery is located on East Chicago Street.

Exhibits like this are great fun, and can be even more interesting if organizers work with a flyer printing company on a handout explaining the artworks to visitors.
