Vaughan culinary teachers launch event series
Vaughan cooking instructors and event hosts The Chef Upstairs have launched a new series aimed at helping everyday cooks improve their fundamental skills.
The Culinary 101 Series takes place every Sunday and includes a “World Tour” series featuring delicacies from different cultures around the world as well as fine knife skills. December instalments of the series will tackle food techniques from Japan, Italy, and Morocco. Other classes will focus on baking, butchery, and saucemaking. Each class will provide ingredients and instructions for guests to make a full meal of several courses, with students working together, and be led by a professional chef. Participants can take home two servings of the meal they worked on.
The classes are designed to be a relaxing and social occasion, with drinks available for purchase during the class. Recipes and tips and tricks will also be provided in electronic form to participants after the class. The 101 series is meant to be an extension of The Chef Upstairs’ efforts at combining culinary instruction and entertainment, which includes home lessons and family classes. Classes like this often use methods like brochure printing and videos to help appeal to different types of learners.
The Chef Upstairs’ Culinary 101 series launched in November and will continue on Sundays in 2024 until December 15, at the company’s location in Concord, Vaughan.
