Musicians will gather in Fredericton this March to pay tribute to legendary folk singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell.
The performance, entitled “Travelogue: In the Footsteps of Joni Mitchell” will include jazz-infused versions of many of Mitchell’s biggest songs, which led the artist to a total of ten Grammy awards and a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The band at the event will be led by vocalist Coral Egan, pianist Daniel Thouin, and saxophonist Yannick Rieu. The backing musicians will include guitarist Rick Haworth, percussionist Miles Duipre-Gagnon, and acoustic performer Zachary Boileu. New renditions of Mitchell standards like “Big Yellow Taxi”, “Coyote” and “River” are being promised.
Tribute concerts like this can include everything from experienced tribute acts to one-night-only assemblages of talent, and frequently use tools like poster printing and local radio advertising to help reach an audience of both the original artist and the on-stage performers. This concert is part of the Fredericton Playhouse’s Spotlight Series, which includes 27 annual events in music, dance, and comedy from visiting performers from across the world. Other events in the series in March will see comedian Mary Walsh, circus group Flip Fabrique and Ballet Edmonton taking the stage.
“Travelogue: In the Footsteps of Joni Mitchell” will take place at the Fredericton Playhouse on the evening of Friday, March 22.
