The Silver Wave Film Festival will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in Fredericton this November, aiming to showcase local and independent movies.
The Festival prioritizes films that have not been previously screened or otherwise made available in Atlantic Canada. Its lineup typically contains a mixture of international and independent productions, including French and English-language programming. This year’s festival will feature over 100 films, with directors ranging from local favourites to international breakout creators.
A jury of experts will select the films and then vote on a number of awards like Best Animated Short Film, the Brian Carty Volunteer Recognition Award, and the Silver Wave WIFT-AT Salute. There will also be a set of awards and prizes specifically made for short films created in New Brunswick. Spectators can vote on a Viewer’s Choice Award online and in-person at screenings.
The Silver Wave Festival was launched by the Film Co-Op staff in 2000, originally named the Tidal Wave Festival, and has become a staple of Atlantic Canada’s film scene. In addition to screenings, the event features panel discussions, workshops, and networking parties to help emerging filmmakers develop their skills and make connections. Festivals like this often use poster printing and tie-in events to raise awareness of the event around the city.
The 2025 Silver Wave Film Festival will take place at various locations in Fredericton from November 6 to 13.
