The Animaritime convention will be back in Fredericton this July, looking to appeal to fans of Japanese animation, comics, and video games.
This will be the 19th edition of the convention, which typically draws over a thousand fans from across Atlantic Canada. There will be special guests such as artists, voice actors, and cosplay experts taking part in panels and signing. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own costumes to pay tribute to a beloved character. Major convention events include a masquerade where costumes will be judged and awarded.
Animaritime is also running an art contest where fans can submit their original characters to be used as a mascot for the convention. The convention will feature two dance nights for Korean and Japanese dance music, with local DJs playing requested songs and the biggest hits. The event is hosted with the support of local volunteers and fans.
This year’s convention will feature the theme of “Darkness”. Other attractions include a gala movie voted on by fans, workshops for costumes and other crafts, gaming tournaments and a “garage sale” market area. Conventions like this are often a place for vendors, artists or collectors offering rare or handcrafted items to connect with customers, often using Business Cards or giveaways to make connections.
The 2026 edition of Animaritime will take place from July 3 to 5 at the Fredericton Convention Centre.
