The Living Roots Music Festival will be returning to Fredericton this June, aiming to highlight local folk, roots and other genres of music from New Brunswick and beyond.
The festival will begin with an official kick-off show where attendees can pick up their passes, including performances by the Montgomery Street Band and Richie Young. Shows will be hosted at smaller venues across Fredericton, with multiple performers at each event. The festival will also feature three live performances of the Backyard History podcast, with host Andrew MacLean sharing stories of the Maritimes’ past. Performers across the weekend include Jessica Pearson and the East Wind, Daniel James McFayden, Michelle Morrison and Isabel Soderman.
Venues for the festival will include The Abbey Cafe & Gallery, Dolan’s Pub, and Hanson Road Flower Co. The festival is run with the support of volunteers who help to make visiting artists feel at home. Music festivals like this often use poster printing and local radio promotion to help raise awareness of the musicians involved. Concerts will generally be low-cost with some “pay what you can” options. Promotional material explains the inspiration for the festival:
“We believe in live art bringing community together. The festival also includes literature events and a documentary screening.”
The 2025 Living Roots Festival will take place between June 4 and 8 at various locations in Fredericton.
