Theatre festival to take stage in Fredericton

The NotaBle Acts Summer Theatre Festival will be returning to Fredericton, showcasing live theatre talent from across the province of New Brunswick.

The festival will feature original one-act plays at a wide variety of levels, from full stage productions to one-man shows. Some plays will be selected through a playwriting contest open to all of New Brunswick. Winners will be selected in three categories based on length, in addition to special categories for middle and high school students. The winning writers will receive a cash prize and script mentoring, in addition to having their plays produced as part of the festival. Theatrical events like this often rely on local volunteers and businesses, from ticket-taking to printing services for programs and advertising.

In addition to on-stage performances, the festival typically features plays being acted out in public environments through the Taking it to the Streets program, often with site-specific scripts, as well as the Play Out Loud reading series of new plays that are currently being developed. The NotaBle Acts festival is hosted by a theatre company of the same name, which says its goals are:

“To develop, mentor and diversify the community of theatre practitioners who choose to call the Province of New Brunswick home.”

The 2025 NotaBle Acts Summer Theatre Festival will take place in downtown Fredericton from July 23 to August 2.
