Youth writing competition invites entries

Aspiring young writers of St. Leonards and the wider Sydney Metropolitan area are invited to submit their entries for the 2021 Nan Manefield Youth Writers Award.

The awards are open to writers between the ages of 11 and 18, and the event is jointly run by Stanton Library and North Sydney Council. While the 2020 awards were held as an online event, this year will see a return to the usual Awards Night format, in which winners will collect their prizes and also have the chance to present their work.

Events like this frequently use printing services in order to produce certificates, promotional material and printed Copies of the works entered.

This year's award will mark the 32nd year of the awards, which are named after educator and librarian Nan Manefield. Manefield was resident in the North Sydney area for over 40 years and was actively involved in many community groups and activities.

The Youth Writers Award is part of a range of youth programs and services offered by North Sydney Council, which include story and rhyme events and school holiday activities.

Submissions for the awards can be up to 750 words, in the form of a poem or short story. The competition is judged in five different age categories.

Entries for the 2021 Nan Manefield Youth Writers Award close April 23, and the winners will be announced during Library and Information Week in May.
