St. Leonards to hold educational game

A school holiday programme running in St. Leonards will feature a tournament dedicated to the educational edition of a wildly popular video game.

Students in the area with a passion for gaming can attend this upcoming contest taking place in the suburb. Entitled the “Minecraft Tournament”, it invites players aged seven to 13 to enter and is a Lane Cove Library School Holidays activity.

Civic institutions presenting events for students sometimes collaborate with dedicated brochure printing services to create Booklets that inform parents on times, dates and locations.

The tournament uses Minecraft Education, and students wishing to take part must bring their login details with them to play. Originally called Minecraft: Education Edition, Minecraft Education is based on the successful Bedrock Edition’s core gameplay, but is tailored to academic use and young people’s online safety.

An interactive leaning platform, the game has specifically been engineered for classrooms and other educational institutions. It employs the popular block-building Minecraft world to teach key subjects like history, science, maths, engineering, technology and coding along with social-emotional skills.

The Minecraft Tournament will now run at St. Leonards Library on Thursday, July 16. The gaming session starts at 2 pm and ends at 3 pm. The library can be found at 88 Christie Street in St. Leonards and admission is free for all wishing to attend.
