An event designed to give community members practical experience of performing CPR and using lifesaving medical equipment is being held at a civic hub in St. Leonards this year.
Citizens can attend an event called CPR & AED Awareness this spring. In a short session hosted by Heart of the Nation, attendees will learn how to act in a cardiac emergency where every minute matters.
Organisations running events that instruct people about lifesaving practices sometimes work with poster printing services that can make engaging notices to pin in libraries and other public buildings.
Led by volunteer community trainers, the guided session will take participants through the basic steps required in CPR and AED, which include calling, pushing and shocking. The aim of the event is for attendees to leave feeling confident they can help if a person collapses, converting bystanders into responders to save lives.
Participants will get hands on with an AED defibrillator and learn how to recognise when CPR is needed and when to use it. The difference between cardiac arrest and a heart attack will also be explained.
The CPR & AED Awareness event is running at St. Leonards Library on Friday, September 18. The library is located at 88 Christie St, St. Leonards, and the session starts at 1 pm and ends at 2.30 pm. The event offers free admission to anyone who would like to participate.
