Film fans in St Leonards will have the chance to catch the best of the Sydney Film Festival as the highlights of the festival return to the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace Cremorne. Now in its 72nd year, the 2025 Sydney Film Festival program celebrates the bold storytelling, difficult truths, and powerful experiences portrayed in over 240 films from 70 countries.
Filmmakers, critics and movie goers can expect all the highlights of an international film festival, with competition, red carpets, discussions, parties, and a selection of the year’s most “courageous, audacious and cutting-edge” films. While the festival is centralised at the iconic State Theatre, showings and events will take place at cinemas across Sydney.
Featuring unique stories from talented filmmakers from Australia and around the world, the Sydney Film Festival celebrates all genres, from box office hits to niche high-art cinema, from documentary to short films, from family to horror, and spotlights key creative communities, including First Nations filmmakers, women in film, and creatives with disability.
