St Leonards walkers put their best feet forward for charity

Four St Leonards workers will be walking a length of the local coastline next month to raise money for charity.

The group will be taking part in the Wild Women On Top Sydney Coastrek, which follows a route of 30 kilometres from Long Reef to Balmoral and is raising money for the Fred Hollows Foundation.

The Foundation continues the work of New Zealander Professor Fred Hollows, who died in 1993 but was a pioneering eye surgeon and advocate who campaigned for people around the world to have access to high-quality eye care.

Money raised helps the Foundation perform operations and treatment to restore sight in developing countries such as Papua New Guinea.

The group has already passed the minimum fundraising amount but hopes to achieve more. Poster printing could be a good way to publicise its efforts at work and in the local community, as well as using online promotional techniques.

Deb Frame McLennan, one of the quartet of workers at WB Financial in St Leonards, told the Blacktown Advocate newspaper that she decided to do the walk after realising how lucky she was to be able to see the view from her local coastline.

The Coastrek includes three different length walks from 30km to 55km completed by teams of four, of which at least half must be women. The walk takes place this Friday, March 4.
