Revised 2036 plan for St Leonards released

Capped tower heights and a reduction in the dwellings to be constructed in Crows Nest and St Leonards have been announced by the State Government as part of its vision for the busy centres in 2036.

In releasing the plan for 2036, Minister for Planning Rob Stokes said the area where building heights will be capped is between the Metro stations at each location. According to the finalised plan, planned towers to be located near the station at St Leonards on the Pacific Highway will only reach 42 storeys – 18 less than previously proposed.

In addition, 43 units designated as affordable housing will be part of plans for St Leonards South. The residences will be located on the Pacific Highway’s southern side and to the west of the railway line.

Stokes said the 2036 plan would provide a better connected and greener St Leonards and Crows Nest precinct that will include more parks, boosted employment space, improved pedestrian access and new public spaces.

He added that $116 million has been included in the final plan to put with developer infrastructure contributions for road upgrades, transport links and education facilities.

Major plans such as this can also help many other local businesses, such as printing services and retail precincts.

An eight-hectare site has also been pegged as extra space for parkland, while $78 million has been committed to public spaces and to the establishment of Metro Park.
