Residential development proposed for St. Leonards

St. Leonards South is the planned location for a proposed mega-development encompassing 329 dwellings as part of a master-planned community.

The new residences will take the place of 20 existing suburban homes on an earmarked 1.26-hectare site fronting Canberra and Holdsworth Avenues. The development is proposed to encompass five separate apartment blocks, plus an additional 10 townhouses.

The buildings, designed by architects Bates Smart, will be up to 11 storeys high, and they will offer communal roof gardens and some views across the treeline towards the harbour. The project will offer three, two and one-bedroom residences, as well as penthouses. Print shops often produce marketing materials for new real estate developments like this.

A landscaped, six-metre-wide ‘green spine’ will link Holdsworth Avenue to Newlands Park, providing public access through the development. Further landscaping is set to include communal lawns and barbecue areas, elevated board walks, a children’s playground, a pool, a waterfall and a commissioned public artwork.

In a statement, Sydney Ma, the Director and General Manager for Top Spring Australia, which is delivering the project, said:

“The buildings will sit comfortably within the urban environment of St Leonards, as well as the bushland quality of the surrounding area.”

The State Government confirmed the St. Leonards Crows Nest 2036 Plan last year. The plans provide for urban revival of the St. Leonards South precinct, which is expected to become a major hub for jobs growth on completion of the Crows Nest Metro Station.
