Public invited to comment on civic precinct study

North Sydney's Civic Precinct, including St. Leonards Park, has been the focus of a planning study prepared by North Sydney Council which is currently on public exhibition.

The precinct extends from the suburb's north to Crows Nest's Falcon Street and in addition to St. Leonards Park takes in local schools, the community centre and Stanton Library.

Council welcomes comments on the study, which has identified the precinct's village feel and the role it plays to connect parks within the green corridor that extends from Middle Harbour to Port Jackson.

According to Mayor Jilly Gibson, the study area is a prized part of the local community and is renowned for the many cultural and sporting activities it provides for residents and visitors. She added:

“You can meet the whole community here - parents and bubs at playgroup, young adults buying organic produce at the markets, workers from the CBD borrowing a library book and retirees attending morning tai chi or a community art class.”

Flyer printing campaigns have often helped to spread the word about local activities such as those planned for the precinct.

Contained within the study is a vision for the precinct to become a modest, connected and modern area serviced by a network of open spaces and pedestrian links. There are also plans for a couple of mix-use developments near Crows Nest and North Sydney's central business district. Public comment is welcome until July 20.
