A low-scale, small project would be established on the 4000sqm repurposed site that sits on the junction of Lakeside Crescent and Pittwater Road.
Chief Executive Officer of Landcom, John Brogden said the plan is to repurpose the site to accommodate 35 to 38 small apartments with at least 10% to be aimed at affordable rental housing. He added:
“Landcom is very excited to have the opportunity to repurpose this perfectly located building into a residential development that will fit in seamlessly with the character and beautiful natural environment of the local neighbourhood.”
He said the affordable rental apartments would be ideal for low or moderate income earners such as retail workers, cleaners, childcare workers and nurses who often have to travel long distances due to a shortage in suitably-priced accommodation.
The adaptive reuse project will also deliver benefits in the area of sustainability, which will effectively reduce household living costs once completed.
Affordable housing projects such as this often attract great publicity ranging from industry magazines to informative brochure printing.
Brogden said Landcom will strive to deliver an innovative fit-for-purpose development by working on a suitable design with the Community Housing Provider.
