Nine site redevelopment moves closer

The New South Wales Department of Planning has recommended a proposed plan for the redevelopment of the Channel 9 site go ahead.

Located in Willoughby, near St. Leonards, the sale of the 2.9 hectare site which had previously been the home of Nine’s headquarters for 50 years was finalised in 2017, selling for $147 million to Euro Properties and Lotus Property.

According to the latest proposals, the plans have outlined 460 affordable housing dwellings, community spaces and parks. Proposal documents and site plans often use graphic design and brochure printing to showcase designs.

In relation to additional traffic movements generated by the proposed development, the Department of Planning stated in a report:

“Additional traffic generation associated with the increased density would result in the acceptable operation of the Willoughby Rd/ Artarmon Rd/ Small St intersection without the need for an upgrade”.

The department added that the project was “in the public interest”.

Project director David Hynes said the development would provide many benefits for the community including the supply of affordable housing.

The Independent Planning Commission will ultimately be making the final decision on the proposals, but it will be holding a public consultation on November 27 to take in the thoughts and opinions of the local community.

Community members are invited to express their views on the proposed project at the meeting at Club Willoughby from 10.30am.

Nine, which currently has a temporary lease on the site, is expected to move into new premises in 2020.
