The town of St. Leonards is currently undergoing the first stage in a beautification process with works having begun in the main shopping area.
Funded by The City of Greater Geelong in conjunction with Vic Roads, $40,000 is being spent on the first stage which includes the sealing of a gravel parking area, improvements to drainage and the building of a new kerb, as well as a channel on the northern side of Murradoc Road. Works on this stage are expected to be finalised by the middle of June.
The council has allocated $400,000 from its 2019-2020 budget to complete stage two of the works, which will include an even greater number of upgrades and streetscaping to be completed along Murradoc Road. The second stage also proposes new seating areas and garden beds as well as improvements to pedestrian crossings. Further proposals include a new town sign and a community noticeboard.
The works are the result of community and business groups that have lobbied together. Council encourages local people to be active within the community and voice their opinions on what they think the town needs. Organisations may use printing services to create material for distribution on local matters.
Councillor Trent Sullivan said that the upgrades will make St. Leonards’ shopping precinct more appealing and vibrant and will help boost local business trade.
