The programme is held at Cremorne's Primrose Park Arts Centre which hosts six low-rent, fully equipped shared studio areas for professional artists.
The need to share individual creative practices by conducting activities such as artist talks, workshops and open days with members of the community is an important requirement as part of the studio programme.
The engaging environment on offer at Primrose Park is considered an ideal place for artists to broaden and pursue artistic endeavours, according to Mayor Jilly Gibson who added:
“For some artists, the natural beauty of the harbourside location has inspired artworks that reflect and interpret the surroundings, while for others it has sparked artworks on entirely different themes. Either way, we have seen some amazing artwork emerging from this programme.”
Programmes such as this have also often helped professional artists to broaden their area of expertise into other creative pursuits ranging from graphic design to painting and pottery.
The Mayor said providing a new dedicated studio environment in which artists are able to work can also prompt some participants to take a new innovative direction.
Applications for this year's studio programme, which will run from October 6, 2020 to September 28, 2021, close on July 31.
