Woodinville has a vibrant public arts program, and has just added another sculpture to those already on display throughout the city.
In March, 2017, the city council was offered the donation of a sculpture to be placed at the roundabout on NE 171st Street. The offer was accepted, and the council announced that the sculpture has now been put in place. The art is a kinetic sculpture, and was installed by the Woodin Creek Village Associates, LLC.
The piece is called ‘In Cloud Light III’, and is the work of Anthony Howe, an artist from Orcas Island, Washington, where he also has a gallery. Howe has designed kinetic works that are scattered around the globe, with his work being featured at the 2016 Oscars.
The sculpture is more than 25 feet tall and resembles a windmill, whether it is in motion or still. The artist has used modern and abstract concepts to pay homage to the agricultural character of the area. The word ‘kinetic’ means related to the physical movement of objects, which applies here, as the sculpture whirls in the wind.
Woodinville is home to the Woodinville Art Walk, which invites people to walk throughout the city and locate the various sculptures on display.
Efforts like this often do particularly well if officials work with a brochure printing company to create illustrated Booklets describing the artwork.
