Woodinville celebrates nature with competition

A friendly competition that will also offer a chance to explore nature is on the way to Woodinville.

The upcoming City Nature Challenge (CNC) is organized by the Community Science teams at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and the California Academy of Sciences. The event is a global, four-day “bioblitz,” where cities both collaborate and compete to see what can be achieved when people work together. The contest is held to see which participating city can find the most species, photograph the most wildlife, and bring the most people to the contest.

The venue for the Woodinville event is the Brightwater Education Center. The center is attached to the newest, most innovative wastewater treatment plant in King County, and is often used by IslandWood, a nonprofit environmental organization, for educational purposes.

The event is open to everyone, though organizers recommend it for participants eight years of age and older. They note that if parents bring their children, the parents will be expected to participate actively in the event and should consider the event carefully before committing to it. The day will involve walking for 1.5 miles, some off-trail, and most of it outdoors. The area around Brightwater is heavily forested and walking may present a challenge for very young children.

The Brightwater Center is located at 22505 State Route 9 SE in Woodinville. Using poster printing methods, organizers of events like this can create advertising for them.
