Teatro ZinZanni recently opened its permanent home in Woodinville, in the former Red Hook Brewery premises. Now, the organization has announced it is expanding to Chicago.
Norm Langill, the creative director and founder of ZinZanni, has wanted to open a Chicago location for a decade, but could not find a spot with a ceiling high enough to accommodate the aerial acts. However, some time last year, Langill was notified that a production company in Chicago had found a promising venue – the Cambria Hotel.
A dropped ceiling had been removed from the hotel’s 14th floor, and a forgotten space was revealed, with a ceiling high enough for the ZinZanni tents. Langill grabbed it, and also bought a second tent from the same company that has furnished the circus’s other tents, the Klessons. He will put the new tent in the space, along with the spiegeltent that is the circus’s trademark. ‘Love, Chaos, & Dinner’ will be the first show to be performed in the Windy City.
In Woodinville, ZinZanni is preparing for ‘Hollywood & Vine’, a tribute to Old Hollywood, the inaugural show to be performed in its new location. Organizations like this can use poster printing to create advertising for their productions.
The organization plans to use Woodinville as its world headquarters, where it will store tents and equipment, devise new productions, and teach circus skills to aspiring performers. ZinZanni also hopes to continue expanding, perhaps to San Francisco.
