What's Happening in Woodinville, WA…

Foresting the focus of March gardening workshop

A series of workshops about gardening is ongoing in Woodinville, and the next is now scheduled.

Permaculture Woodinville is presenting its Forest Gardening Workshop, which will be held at 21 Acres. Although the event is one in a series, each stands by itself. The goal of the series overall is to design, implement, maintain and harvest the planned food forest at 21 Acres Center for Local Food & Sustainable Living.

A food forest is a way of growing food that takes the forest as its model. Over time, non-productive species such as shade trees, shrubs, and ground cover are replaced with productive species, such as fruits.

The next workshop is “Forest Garden Installation—The Permaculture Way.” The first topic is community organizing, or how to plan, organize, and reach out to others to assist in building the forest garden. For any attendees who do not have this option, the organizers of the event will help find alternatives.

Bioengineer Jason Padvorac will lead the workshop, and provide a syllabus to each attendee, which will include additional materials. After the lecture, the class will move outdoors to the food forest.

The workshop begins at 8:45 am on March 21, and will end at 12:00 noon, and tickets are $35. Attendees are invited to bring a snack to share during the lecture, which runs from 9:00 am until 10:00 am. Print shops are reliable resources to use to prepare materials for events like this.
