An upcoming event in Vancouver acknowledges the importance of pollinators and gives people a chance to learn more about them.
The Vancouver Pollinator Festival will be held in Marshall Park, where people can learn about these creatures and how to protect them. The day includes speakers, BioBlitz, Pollinator Games, and more.
The speakers are a mix of scientists, gardeners, and artists. They are Dr. Doug Tallamy, professor of agriculture at the University of Delaware; Dr. Olivia Carril, a wild bee biologist; Dr. Erica Henry, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Prairie Ecologist; Steven Clark, the Bee Campus Project Manager at Clark College; Michael O’Loughlin, who works for Clark Public Utilities as its Environmental Sustainability Manager, where his team works on pollinator habitat creation and riparian restoration; landscape architect Jane Tesner Kleiner; and mural artist Hill Kent.
In addition to hearing from these experts, people can take part in the month-long BioBlitz, during which they will track beetles, flies, butterflies, and other pollinators, as well as the flowering plants they depend on for support. People are welcome to observe species anywhere in Clark County.
The event also includes Pollinator Games, special events for children, and a Bee Craft section for crafters.
The pollinator festival is set for June 20, and the park is at 1069 E McLoughlin Boulevard, and the BioBlitz takes place June 13-20. Organizers of this kind of event can add to the fun by using banner printing to create appropriate outdoor decorations.
