An upcoming event in Vancouver honors some of the cultures that are part of the community.
The 2nd Annual AANHPI Heritage Celebration is hosted by The Ulu Initiative, which has partnered with the Vancouver Mall for the event. The day showcases the diversity and beauty of Pacific Islander, Native Hawaiian, and Asian American cultures in the area, and follows the highly successful initial event.
The day will feature cultural demonstrations, live performances, food vendors with a variety of AANHPI (the abbreviation stands for Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander) cuisines, and fun for the whole family. The event is a chance for people to tell stories, learn traditions, and support local businesses.
There is still room for vendors and entertainers to sign up. Vendors already committed include the Pa’akai Shop (a Hawaiian boutique), KiaLena, (jewelry made by hand using semi-precious stones, cultured pearls, and Ni'ihau shells), Tongan Kids Books (children’s Books in both Tongan and English), and Koa Roots LLC (Hawaiian-style smoked brown butters and fruit butters, brown butter snacks, and baked goods).
Performers confirmed thus far include Tahitian dance group Anavai O Te Ora and the Vietnamese dance group Red Rubies.
The celebration is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, from 12:00 pm until 7:00 pm, at Vancouver Mall. Celebrations like this can be enhanced by the publicity generated from Posters, which organizers will find at Print shops.
