Neighborhood picnic planned in Vancouver

A Vancouver neighborhood is inviting residents to a fun and informative event.

The Maple Tree Neighborhood Picnic/Potluck will be held in Orchards Community Park, where people will enjoy games, food, and hanging out with neighbors and friends. Organizers will provide hot dogs and hamburgers, but attendees are asked to bring their favorite sides, chips, or desserts to share.

Local organizations will be on hand to explain their services. Representatives from the library district will explain all the services they provide, as well as encouraging people to sign up for their summer reading program. Animal Protection & Control will have their truck on site, and representatives from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office will attend, barring emergencies.

The Lion’s Club will be providing vision screenings, and accepting donations of used eyeglasses, and representatives of Clark County Parks will display plans for the future development of the park, as well as ideas for new equipment for the playground. Recycle & We Compost! will demonstrate their program for keeping food waste out of landfills.

Although the event is free, organizers are asking that people buy tickets so they know how many to expect. In addition, donations are welcome, though not necessary.

The picnic is set for September 13, from 11.00 am until 2.00 pm at Orchards Community Park, 9800 NE 54th Street. Events like this are often advertised via handouts distributed in the local area, which organizers can create using flyer printing.
