Arts & Music Festival returns to Vancouver

One of the most popular events in the Pacific Northwest is returning to Vancouver.

The Vancouver Arts & Music Festival brings artists and performers from across the country and throughout the world to Vancouver for three days of outstanding entertainment. The event includes performances on three stages, food vendors, family activities, dance performances, pop-up art galleries, juried art shows, and three performances by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra led by their maestro, Salvador Brotons, and guest conductor Gerard Schwarz.

The orchestra will perform once each day, offering works from films to those of classic composers including the “Star War Suite” by John Williams; Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain”; and “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin. Gerard Schwarz will lead the orchestra with violinist Pinchas Zuckerman as the special guest. Zuckerman is a violinist, violist, and conductor whose career stretches over five decades, and Schwarz is probably best known as the conductor of the Seattle Symphony, a post he held from 1985 to 2011.

Classical music is only one of the arts celebrated at the festival. Others include bluegrass music, Irish dance, hip-hop, flamenco, the Clown Garage, and many more. The classic 1940 film “Fantasia” will also be screened.

The festival will take place in Esther Short Park and surrounding areas and is set for August 7-9. The event itself is free, though artists and food vendors will have items available for purchase, and can benefit from colorful advertisements organizers create using poster printing.
