A conference in Vancouver will bring public works professionals together.
The Washington Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) will hold their spring conference in Vancouver. Public works generally can be understood as the construction and improvement of municipal and state facilities, done by qualified contractors.
The local chapter strives to create a space where everyone feels supported and valued, because people who are secure become leaders, take risks, and participate fully. The idea of a welcoming space—even an industrial one—is reflected in the theme of this year’s conference, “Communities of Belonging,” which is based on the work of Dr. Bertice Berry, who is the conference keynote.
Dr. Berry is a sociologist and best-selling author, lecturer, and comedian who has won the titles of Entertainer of the Year, Lecturer of the Year, and Comedian of the Year. She has 14 best-selling Books to her credit and has won numerous awards for her writing.
She has also hosted her own television show, and has appeared on shows including “Crossfire,” “Between the Lions,” “Oprah Winfrey,” “The Tonight Show,” CNN, Comedy Central, PBS, NPR, and “20-20.”
Berry has used her talents to advocate on topics including transformational leadership, healthcare reform, sociological studies, and gender and race issues.
The conference is scheduled for April 15 and 16 at the Hilton in Downtown Vancouver. Events like this can be even more effective when organizers use flyer printing to create a handout for attendees including an agenda.
