An upcoming event in Vancouver will provide children with a rare opportunity and also raise funds for a good cause, The Nutter Foundation.
The annual Dozer Day allows children a chance to operate bulldozers, loaders, backhoes, and other pieces of heavy equipment. The chance to see these machines up close and learn about them in detail may spark an interest in construction as a career. Some of this year’s event sponsors are Papé Machinery, Toyota, Les Schwab tires, Northwest College of Construction, and dozens more, many of whom will be hiring.
A few guidelines have been established to keep everyone safe. Youngsters less than 48 inches in height will be allowed to climb into the equipment cabs where their actions will be guided by experienced equipment operators who will also be in the cab.
Adults and teenagers, as well as children taller than 48 inches, will be allowed to operate machines by themselves. However, operators will be close by to provide instructions, ensure they operate the equipment safely, and answer questions.
In addition to a chance to operate heavy equipment, activities will be open to people of all ages to enjoy including skill contests, kids’ dig, and a tire crawl, and sponsors’ giveaways.
Dozer Day is actually a two-day event, October 4 and 5, at the Clark County Fairgrounds a few miles north of Vancouver. The hours are from 11.00 am until 4.00 pm both days. Organizers of events like this can advertise them by using poster printing.
