People who are curious about one of Santa’s helpers who is definitely not an elf have a chance to meet this figure at a special event in Vancouver.
The DEVIL–ish Little Things Museum has an extensive collection of items with the theme of horned creatures. The museum’s curator is a woman whose background is in Hollywood costume design. She is from Germany, where Christmas traditions differ from those in the United States.
One of those traditions is that of the Krampus, a horned figure from Eastern and Central European folklore. The Krampus accompanies Saint Nicholas as he gives gifts to children who have been good. If children are badly behaved, the Krampus punishes them by whipping them with birch rods.
The upcoming event is the Krampus Bazaar, where visitors will have a chance to take photos with Krampus beside the traditional black tree, and enjoy the annual “Museum shop” weekend. Items available at the museum store include Krampus ornaments, jewelry, beadwork, prints, and ceramic items.
The sale is limited to one room; all the others will remain closed. In addition, there will be no tours given this weekend, which will be devoted to the sale. Anyone who wants a picture with the Krampus should bring their own camera, and a staff member will take the photo.
The Krampus Bazaar weekend is December 6 and 7, from 11.00 am until 5.00 pm both days. Using flyer printing, organizers of events like this can provide economical advertising for them.
