Vancouver celebrates its trees
Vancouver is proud of its trees and is eager to celebrate them.
This April is Arbor Month, and Vancouver plans to celebrate by recognizing Arbor Day, honoring Mac Award volunteers, offering self-guided tours of Vancouver’s trees, and encouraging at-home activities for people to enjoy while celebrating trees.
For the 33rd year in a row, Vancouver will be honored with the title of Tree City USA. Everyone is welcome to join the Urban Forestry Commission in celebrating the honor. The party will be held at the Old Apple Tree Park.
The event starts with a 30-minute event during which volunteers and others involved with local trees will be honored. After that, the event will turn into a service project, where shrubs and trees will be planted at the Land Bridge. Litter will be gathered, and mulch put down. Gloves, tools, and the trees to be planted will be provided – all volunteers need to do is dress appropriately for the weather.
The Arbor Day Celebration is scheduled for April 9, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. During the period April 9 through April 17, posters will be placed throughout the city at special Heritage Groves and Heritage Trees. Everyone is encouraged to visit these sites to learn more about the trees. People are also encouraged to join in the festivities by planting trees at home. Using poster printing will enable organizers of events like this to create the materials they need.
