Vancouver anticipates projects in 2019
The economic forecast for Vancouver and surrounding Clark County was recently released, noting that the number of construction applications, as well as pre-applications, have been increasing since 2016. The trend is forecast to continue into 2019.
The new Waterfront Project, a major mixed-use development of offices, restaurants, and condos located directly on the Columbia River, accounts for some of the increase, but many other projects are planned as well. According to Vancouver's Community and Economic Development Director, Chad Eiken, permits have been issued for construction throughout the city, not just on the waterfront. There are a number of multi-family housing units planned, and bonds were passed to support construction of new schools in both the Evergreen School District and the Vancouver School District.
In addition to school construction, the Vancouver School District plans to make major renovations to every school in the district, including building additions and adding new football fields. The schedule will be tight, because the district would like to have most of the work done before the school year that starts in Fall 2019. Projects like this give developers a chance to use logo design to create attractive symbols.
In addition to construction, the Columbia River Economic Development Council has heard from a number of high-tech companies that are interested in moving to the area. The council has been increasing the workforce available in five specific areas—life sciences, metals and machinery, software, clean tech, and electronics and computers.
