Upcoming Vancouver walk celebrates life
An event in Vancouver will celebrate cancer carers and survivors, raise funds to continue the fight against the disease, and honor those who have been lost.
The Relay For Life of Clark County is a full day of community, mutual support, and fun, all taking place downtown at Esther Short Park. People of every age are welcome to take part, or simply cheer for others. The money raised will go to ongoing research into the disease, as well as support for patients.
The event’s focus is a track lined with luminaria, where participants will walk. Organizers remind everyone that this is not a race.
The day begins with a celebration for local cancer survivors. They’ll walk the track while friends, family, and supporters cheer them on from the sidelines. Everyone is encouraged to bring noisemakers, pom-poms, and other fun devices to support the walkers.
After the survivors walk the track, carers will be able to join them. Carers are anyone who has helped care for someone with cancer.
The final phase of the celebration is lighting special luminaria in remembrance, which will be lit by relay teams at sunset.
The day begins at 10.00 am with an opening ceremony and a celebration for carers and cancer survivors, who will enjoy a free lunch. Activities continue all day, and the event ends with the luminaria ceremony at 7.30 pm. Organizers of outdoor events like this often use banner printing to create themed decorations.
