Racing to keep warm in Vancouver

A special event to help those in need is scheduled to take place in Vancouver.

The annual Race for Warmth is part of Operation Warm Heart, and is organized by the local power company, Clark Public Utilities. Those who sign up will receive a long-sleeve tech shirt, a bib number, a medal for participating, and a good bag containing coupons and items from local businesses. This year, racers are urged to also bring along their four-legged running companions. The fur babies will get race bandannas of their own, which will complement their owners’ shirts.

This year, the race will be a virtual event, with participants choosing their own routes. They may choose pre-set 5K or 10K routes that have been set up by Race for Warmth, or design their own. They can run, walk, ride a bike, or even follow the route on a treadmill at home. The race is being held virtually to keep everyone safe during the ongoing pandemic.

If racers choose to follow a pre-set route, they have 13 to choose from. These include the Lacamas Heritage Trail in Camas; the Waterfront Renaissance Trail in the Vancouver Downtown; and Vancouver Lake, in West Vancouver. Banner printing is a method organizers can use to create course markers for events like this.

The 5/10K Run/Walk is scheduled for January 28 to 30, 2022. Registration is open now and is $30, while pet registration is $5. The money raised goes to help pay for heat for local families in need.
