Public works professionals to meet in Vancouver
One of two major conferences for public works consultants and departments is on the schedule in Vancouver.
The Spring APWA (American Public Works Association) Washington Chapter Conference gives professionals a chance to learn about developments in their field, network, and attend educational sessions given by industry leaders.
Organizers note that people who will get the most from this conference include engineering directors and their staff, solid waste managers, flood control managers, stormwater managers, public works directors, and those with similar job responsibilities. Students, IT professionals, county planners, city planners, and communications and marketing experts will also benefit, according to organizers.
As with most professional conferences, the APWA has educational sessions running on several “tracks,” which are broad subject areas such as technology, career development, funding, and sustainability. The presentations are technical, and include topics like “Managing Deep Excavations, Shoring, and Dewatering,” and “Community Outreach with ArcGIS Story Maps.” There will also be forums for general discussions.
As always, exhibitors will be available with their latest products and services. More than 80 vendors will be on hand, including everyone from equipment manufacturers to government agencies.
The conference is set for April 10 and 11 at the Hilton in downtown Vancouver. The APWA golf tournament is on April 9, for those who are interested. Organizers of events like this will frequently work with printers using flyer printing to create handouts for attendees with a map, a list of lectures, and vendors.
