What's Happening in Vancouver, WA…

Event to make Vancouver more beautiful

Interested residents have a chance to make Vancouver more beautiful by taking part in a clean-up effort.

Staff from the City of Vancouver’s Volunteer Programs as well as Adopt-A-Park volunteers can use some help at the upcoming Burnt Bridge Creek Litter Cleanup Walk. Volunteers will meet, sign in, receive the tools they need, and then separate into groups that will walk the trail.

The agencies involved will provide water, tools, gloves, and training. The clean-up is perfect for families and teenagers, and everyone should wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. Teens under 18 need a signed permission form.

The trail is accessible to wheelchair users, and is mostly quiet, with the possibility of infrequent loud sounds made by nearly workers. If volunteers are mulching, they may be turning, twisting, shoveling, and pushing wheelbarrows. If they are removing invasive species, they may be pulling, kneeling, and pushing, as well as lifting plants high enough to drop into a dumpster. If they are picking up litter, they need to be able to use a litter grabber and lift as much as ten pounds.

The clean-up is on November 7, from 10.00 am until noon, at Burnt Bridge Creek Trail. The parking lot at Parkrose Hardware, 8000 East Mill Plain Boulevard, is the meeting place for volunteers, and RSVPs are required. When organizers plan events like this, they often work with a printer who can use flyer printing to create instruction sheets for volunteers.
