Vancouver announces concerts on the water

Vancouver is joining other cities in making summer nights even more enjoyable with music.

The Waterfront Vancouver Parking Center is presenting the upcoming Vancouver Waterfront Concert Series, which takes place at Vancouver Waterfront Park. The artists scheduled are the Bobby Torres Ensemble, who play Latin jazz; Wamba, who are Afrobeat and world beat artists; Orquestra Pacifico Tropical, who play Cumbia music; and Norman Sylvester, who plays R&B and Northwest Blues.

In 1994, Bobby Torres formed his group, whose music fuses Latin and American standards ornamented with touches of jazz.

Wamba formed in 2011 and was the creation of Adam Carpinelli, a multi-instrumentalist, and Richard Mensah Sokpor, a Ghanian drummer and dancer. The band comprises players from both North America and Ghana.

Orquestra Pacifico Tropical is based in Portland, Oregon and is a Cumbia band. Cumbia music is defined as folk dance traditions and rhythms from Latin America, often incorporating elements from African, European, and American Indigenous people.

The Norman Sylvester Band has been together for four decades and has played more than 4,000 gigs. The band has appeared on stage with legends like Buddy Guy and the Tower of Power.

Bobby Torres plays July 3, Wamba on July 10, Orquestra Pacifico Tropical on July 17, and Norman Sylvester on July 24, all of which are Thursdays. When they decide to publicize events like this, organizers will often use flyer printing to create handouts that can be distributed throughout the local area.
