Celebrating nature in Vancouver
A special day for Vancouver residents who appreciate nature is coming up soon.
For the 36th year in a row, Vancouver is being recognized as a Tree City USA, and will celebrate with an outing to the Jane Weber Evergreen Arboretum. People attending will join the Urban Forestry Commission and will have a chance to plant trees.
The day starts with a recognition ceremony that will include a presentation of the Gordon and Sylvia MacWilliams Evergreen Award, and then the Mayor will accept the Tree City USA Award.
Organizers of this type of event can work with banner printing providers to create directional signs for people coming to the program.
Supporting trees makes cities more livable and keeps the air cleaner. Vancouver frequently has volunteer opportunities for people to maintain its parks and green spaces.
After the ceremony, everyone will have an opportunity to join in planting the Arbor Day Tree, as well as pollinator plants. Organizers will provide guidance, tools, and gloves to people attending the event, which is appropriate for everyone.
There is limited parking available at the arboretum, but there will be street spaces. Event organizers suggest people carpool or bike to reduce environmental impact.
The celebration is set for April 9, from 11.30 am until 12.30 pm. The arboretum is located at 9215 SE Evergreen Highway, a short distance from the Columbia River. Portland International Airport is directly across the river and provides a colorful backdrop for the event.
