An upcoming event will teach attendees about herbs and allow them to give back to the community.
The Washington State University Extension has a notable Clark County Master Gardener program, and a team from the school is offering a workshop about growing herbs.
The Herb Growing Team will teach participants about the herbs that will grow in the local environment so people can develop successful gardens of their own. The experts will discuss how to grow woody herbs like lavender and rosemary, and how to grow the herbs that are considered tender, such as parsley, cilantro, and basil, from seed. The team will also talk about the type of soil and conditions these popular herbs must have to thrive, and they will include suggestions on how to use the herbs in the kitchen.
There is a second component to the workshop. After the 45-minute long class, participants will be asked to work in the demonstration garden for 45 minutes, which will be fun as well as an opportunity to examine the herbs closely. The class and garden work will take place rain or shine, so everyone who is interested should dress for bad weather, bring water with them, and plan on getting dirty.
The workshop/gardening is from 10.00 am until 12.00 pm on June 29, at Pacific Park Natural Demonstration Garden, located at 1515 NE 164th Avenue. Organizers of events like this will often use flyer printing to create informative handouts for students.
