A Vancouver artist is inviting people to explore a strange character associated with the holiday season.
Krystle will be the instructor for a painting event that allows participants to “make and take” their artwork home with them. The subject of the painting is the folklore character Krampus, and attendees will use acrylic paint in their work. There are several designs available, so people can choose which Krampus they prefer. The design will be pre-sketched on a canvas measuring 11” x 14”, and all supplies and materials are included.
Krampus is a figure of Alpine folklore and is a sort of Santa Claus in reverse. According to tradition, Krampus and Santa Claus travel together, with Santa rewarding good children with gifts, while Krampus punishes those who have misbehaved—sometimes whipping them with birch twigs. The figure is usually depicted as being black in color, with horns and hooves, and a long red tongue. Krampus is becoming increasingly popular throughout the world, and was the subject of a horror-comedy film of 2015.
The workshop is set for December 3, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Vancouver Art Space on NE Vancouver Mall Drive. The event is open to those 12 and over only, and space is limited. Flyer printing is a handy method to use to create instruction sheets for this type of event.
