Dance event in Vancouver
A Vancouver dance school is getting set to present a show in honor of the season this January.
The Cottage Dance Academy will celebrate the cold with their production “Once Upon a Winter,” to be performed at the Magenta Theater on Main Street in Downtown Vancouver. The show features original jazz and contemporary pieces mounted by choreographer Chloe Mason, along with performances by the Performance Company of Vancouver’s Cottage Dance Academy. They will dance “Les Patineurs,” an ice-skating ballet devised by the great Frederick Ashton.
Ashton was both a ballet dancer and choreographer, remembered today more for his choreography, particularly his work with the Royal Ballet. In 1960, he created “La fille mal gardée” for the company. It was an instant hit and is still regularly performed. “Les Patineurs” is a one-act ballet depicting a Victorian skating party that takes place on a winter evening on a frozen pond.
The Cottage Dance Academy offers a nurturing, safe space in which students can develop their unique talents and gifts. Academy leaders believe dance should be inclusive and accessible, helping people learn the joy of self-expression through dance. Heidi Mason is the owner of the studio, and Chloe Mason is the lead teacher.
The show is one-of-a-kind, and will be performed on January 27, at 2.00pm and again at 6.00pm. Colorful posters advertising an equally colorful show can be created by the event organizers using poster printing.
