Celebrating Aloha in Vancouver

A four-day celebration is coming to Vancouver, and promises to be fun for everyone.

Over 30,000 people have enjoyed the “4 Days of Aloha in the Pacific Northwest” festival in the past, where they have learned about the cultures of Hawai'i and other Pacific island nations. Food vendors, artists, and crafts people will be on hand for the entire event, which ends with the Hawaiian Festival.

The four days are packed with events, including workshops in the mornings and afternoons, teaching everything from how to make leis, to how to do the hula, to how to pound poi. The workshops take place on the first two days of the event, then the third is devoted to demonstrations (Hōʻike) and performances. Among them are dances and live music.

The final day has added an additional event to the fun—the Aunty Deva 5K Aloha Fun Run. Other displays focus on the various cultures that have made Hawai'i a melting pot, including a traditional Chinese Lion Dance, the Filipino folk dancing known as Tinikling, and Taiko drumming from Japan.

The Aloha event is scheduled for July 23 through July 26 at Esther Short Park in downtown Vancouver. There is no admission charge, and various events occur at different times throughout the entire celebration. People planning to attend should check the website to see the schedule, which can also be created by using flyer printing to devise a handout listing times of activities at events like this.
