After four years of work, Kennewick celebrated a milestone this month.
City officials and firefighters recently held a ceremony breaking ground for a new facility. The new construction will provide the Fire Station Administration Building, and Fire Station No. 1, to the city. The building will have two stories, with the administrative offices on the second floor, and a fully functional fire station at ground level. The fire department itself purchased the land for the station.
The new station, which comprises 21,000 square feet, will be located on West 10th Ave, on a 2.4-acre site. The facility, which is projected to cost $12.7m, will replace the current station, which first opened in 1977. Chad Michael, the Kennewick Fire Chief, said the new location is ideal. Being on 10th Avenue will give first responders easy access to Main Avenue, which in turn which will allow them to respond quickly to emergencies in East Kennewick. He added that it will be much easier for units to get to the other four stations in the local system. Overall, moving the fire station to this location will provide quicker response times.
Chief Michael was among those at the groundbreaking ceremony. Others joining in the day’s celebration were Bill McKay, the mayor of Kennewick, and several firefighters.
When organizational changes like this are made, officials should consider creating new Business Cards for employees to reflect accurate information.
