What's Happening in Kennewick, WA…

Entertainment with Latin accent for Kennewick

A songwriter, singer, and producer will bring his Latin flair to Kennewick.

Rodolfo Edén Muñoz Cantú, who goes by Edén Muñoz, works in the genre of regional Mexican music. When he was eight, Daniel, his older brother, gave the boy guitar lessons. He learned to play quickly.

He spent several years honing his craft by playing locally, and in 2006, he became a guitarist and vocalist for the professional group Colmillo Norteño. For ten years after their founding, the band concentrated on Norteño music, which often deals with social topics, then switched to Norteño-Banda music, a combination of the two genres. Banda is a subgenre of regional Mexican music that incorporates horns.

Muñoz left the band in 2010 and formed his own group, which played the same Norteño-Banda music. He called his band Puro Colmillo Norteño, but was too similar to his former group, so he settled on Calibre 50.

As the main songwriter, vocalist, producer, leader, and accordionist of Calibre 50, Muñoz and the band set records, including putting the most songs by a Mexican artist, either solo or with a band, in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard chart. He left the band in 2022 to go solo. A reviewer called his performance:

“. . . a lively showcase of Mexican music . . .”

Eden Munoz will be at the Toyota Center in Kennewick on August 15 at 8.00 pm. Performances like this are often advertised with posters, which organizers can order at print shops.
